The Small Calamities Release Brand New Single “Hey Cat”

May 6, 2022 (Los Angeles, CA) – Today, LA based power pop band,The Small Calamities, return with their brand new single, “Hey Cat.” From the lush, soaring strings to the powerful drums and sharp, catchy lyrics, this track explores what could have been and what will never be after a failed relationship. Listen to “Hey Cat” now HERE.

About the song, lead singer Charlie Wolf says, “During the pandemic I had a lot of friends reconnect with their ‘one that got away’ and sometimes that worked out but more often than not it kind of blew up in peoples’ faces. I tried to capture a lot of those experiences I’ve witnessed over the past two years in the lyrics of this song. We arranged all the strings and horns ourselves and had an orchestra in Europe record it live which was both surreal and terrifying!

Hey Cat” is the first single off the band’s upcoming EP Stupid Love Songs which will be released this summer. The EP, produced in Los Angeles at the end of quarantine, has the band (Charlie, Crystal, and Christian) showcasing biting lyrics over lush and haunting chamber pop orchestration. If there’s anything the past couple years have shown, it’s that everything can change in a moment… so why not wear your heart on your sleeve?

Coming up, The Small Calamities will be playing a short run of shows along the West Coast. Today, they’ll be performing for Bridge City Sessions in Portland. See below for a full list of dates and get your tickets now HERE. Stay tuned for more music coming soon!

The Small Calamities make melancholy power pop with tinges of folk and emo. Guitar World magazine called their 2021 release MOMENTS OF IMPACT “unwaveringly bold and kaleidoscopic” and Buzzbands LA described 2019’s designer heartache as “a lyrical world of wonder“. Their eclectic live sets flow between roaring punk songs, introspective folk ballads, and even a violin concerto.
