Sister Shotgun’s “Fragments” Is Locked, Loaded, and Ready for Replay

I’ll be the first to admit that my musical collection is predominantly male-fronted bands. There’s no specific reason – that’s just how my rock collection tends to fall. Sister Shotgun just took my rock collection, shook it up, flipped it upside down, and now I’m left with utter chaos. What I’m trying to say is this: They just forced me to start looking outside the box.

Although the album is titled “Fragments,” it’s anything but. Vocalist Chloe Ozwell can hit any note, high or low, and she does it with smooth precision. This is no surprise, considering she began singing at the age of 7 and is a classically-trained vocalist. Founder and guitarist Niall Wills is self-taught, which is mind-blowing when you listen to him absolutely shred on this album. Let’s also not forget about the bass – Tim Chambers studied music in college and is a multi-instrumentalist. Chambers’ ability to take the bass and create leadlines and melodies unlike any other really take Sister Shotgun’s music to an entirely different level. Dave Harvey’s aggression on the drums really drives that hard-hitting metal feel home, while Benji Tatlock’s death and tech metal background contributes to this, and we can hear this in his guitar-playing. Together, this is more than an English rock band from Birmingham (West Midlands – NOT Alabama) – this is a treasure trove of talent in the metal scene.

Every single song on this album is infused with enough energy to have you cranking your stereo loud enough that you’ll feel generous enough to share the sound with your neighbors as well. I truly cannot pick and choose two or three favorite songs – it’s that good. You’ve got melody, harmony, heavy riffs, bass – you’ve got a metal masterpiece led by a woman; But don’t be fooled – She’s kicking ass and taking names.

Fragments released on April 19th, so be sure to grab a copy. In the meantime, check out Sister Shotgun’s video for “Sacred Heart” below!
